After three years and seven issues, I’ve resigned as fiction editor of Kelp Journal. Issue No. 12 was my last issue as fiction editor.
This was a hard decision for me because I’ve loved working on this journal–the aesthetic was a perfect fit for me–and I’ve loved working with the Kelp Journal team. But it was time, both for me and for the journal. I’m looking forward to focusing more of my time and energy on my own writing and on my family, and I’m excited for the journal to get a fresh editorial perspective in the fiction department.
I’ve volunteered for various literary journals for the past seven years. It’s worthwhile work that I highly recommend any writer do for a period of time—it was not only good literary citizenship, but it also improved my own writing, editing, and critical skills. You can start by volunteering to read for a journal and go from there.
I wish you a new year filled with good books and good writing, but most of all, I wish you health, happiness, and lots and lots of love.
