Quarterfinalist in ScreenCraft Cinematic Short Story Competition

I got some amazing news this morning: two short stories I entered in ScreenCraft’s Cinematic Short Story Competition advanced to the quarterfinalist round. Although I’m not a screenwriter or a filmmaker, I love film. I’m currently in the process of watching all of the Academy Award Best Picture winners in order. It’s a dream of mine to have something I’ve written adapted to film, so I wanted to give this a shot and see whether my stories might be considered suitable for a television show or a movie. Let’s face it, my acting career ended my junior year of high school, with my uninspiring portrayal of Alice in I Never Sang for My Father, so how else will I ever have a chance to attend the Academy Awards?

The experience has been wonderful so far. I’ve received written feedback for both my submissions with some fantastic, actionable ideas to help me make these stories better and more highly adaptable to film. No matter what happens, this has been a good experience.

ScreenCraft chose 216 quarterfinalists out of a field of close to 800 (2022 ScreenCraft Cinematic Short Story Competition Quarterfinalists). I’ll find out on February 16th whether either of my stories advances to the semi-finals. Fingers crossed!
